Why Broilact?
When pheasant chicks hatch in a natural environment, bacteria from the
adult hen colonise their gut. This protects them against undesirable bacteria,
such as Salmonella, and E. coli.
In commercial rearing, newly hatched chicks encounter the bacteria left
by previous crops of young birds. These are different bacteria from those
originating from 'adult birds. They do not provide protection and are undesirable
or even harmful.
Broilact, given to newly hatched chicks, replaces the adult hen as a
source of natural protection against harmful bacteria.
What is Broilact?
Broilact is a preparation of the complex mixture of bacteria that
inhabit the gut of the healthy adult fowl. The Broilact bacteria have
been selected for their ability to line the gut and so minimise its colonisation
by undesirable and harmful bacteria.
Broilact is prepared by a unique patented process. It contains a guaranteed
minimum number of viable bacteria and every batch is tested for effectiveness
before release.
What does Broilact do?
Broilact dramatically reduces colonisation of the gut by undesirable
bacteria. This means they cause less damage to the gut lining, and they
can be removed more easily by the bird's natural defence mechanisms. The
bacteria affected are:
Salmonella
E. coli
Yersinia enterocolitica
Campylobacter
Clostridium perfringens.
In scientific trials, Broilact has been proved effective in pheasants.
This is also backed by the experience of commercial pheasant producers,
who report good results in pheasant chicks sprayed with Broilact at
day-old, compared with untreated birds.
When to use Broilact?
Broilact should be used as soon as possible after hatching, preferably
in the hatchery. This gives Broilact bacteria the best opportunity
to colonise the gut before harmful bacteria reach it. Broilact should
also be used after certain treatments, to restore the normal protective
bacteria.
